Two weeks ago one of our physios was in a scramble golf tournament. Now, this physio has a chronic back condition but continues to keep active by golfing on a regular basis and officiating soccer at the collegiate level. On this particular occasion he was running late, did not complete his habitual proper warm up and caused irritation to the nerves traversing the 4th and 5th facet joints resulting in shooting pains down both lower extremities.
After some flexibility and stretching exercises he was able to complete the tournament and together with his buddies won the tournament. They’re off to Banff to compete in the Regional Finals in September.
A rest day following the tourney, treatment that consisted of cryotherapy, McKenzie exercises and laser therapy had our golfnut physio swinging clubs again 48 hours after the acute episode of pain and muscle spasms.
Now, he has injury to his back that does not have easy resolution. However, proper pre game routine and a daily program of stretching and exercises allow our physio to continue being involved in the activities that he loves.
