November 2019

Our November 2019 volunteer of the month is someone who has been exposing us to the importance of the month of November for many years. He always came by with the poppy tray and wreath that our Royal Canadian Legion provides to local businesses as we commemorate the service that he and men and women like him gave for our freedom today.
This gentleman had wanted to be a pilot 90 years ago, when, on his dad’s farm, he saw an airplane fly overhead. At age 19, he enlisted in the Air Force, becoming a pilot, flying the Douglas DC-3 in WWII.
After the war, he returned to Canada where he farmed.
Then, in 1951, he again joined the Air Force and served our country for 18 years. His last airplane was a Lockheed C-130 Hercules.
Thank you, Walter Burchnall, for your service!
