WHAT IS A CONCUSSION:
A concussion is a disruption in neurological functioning following a significant impact to the head or elsewhere on the body. This causes a biochemical imbalance within brain cells as well as decreased blood flow and temporary energy deficits within the brain. Studies have shown that any activity, both mental and physical, in the immediate days following concussion can delay the process of recovery and should be avoided until the athlete is completely symptom free.
This infographic by Dr. Mike Evans does a great job of explaining what a concussion is:
WHAT IS MULTIMODAL BASELINE TESTING?
Multimodal Baseline Testing is a series of physical and cognitive tests that measures healthy brain function before a sports season starts. As symptoms of concussion will often disappear days to weeks before the brain has fully recovered, having baseline information may provide healthcare practitioners with valuable information on brain recovery that may help to inform safer return to learn, work and play decisions.
CONCUSSION TRACKER SMARTPHONE APP
Athletes and concussed patients and their parents or guardians can now log in to view their baseline test as well as receive rehabilitation exercises, diet plans, and other recovery tips as they recover from a concussion. The app also allows the injured patient to have around the clock communication with the treating clinician as well as provide an update on their symptoms and progress every single day…all from the convenience of your phone!
