What is GLA:D® – Knee and Hip Osteoarthritis Program?
GLA:D® knee and hip osteoarthritis Program
- is an 8-week education and exercise program delivered by certified therapists for people with symptoms of hip or knee osteoarthritis (OA)
- was developed in Denmark and more than 10,000 people have participated
- teaches you how to control your movements and allow you to be more active
What is GLA:D™ Canada?
- GLA:D® is available in Canada and will be offered in various locations across the country
- The program includes 2-3 educational classes, 12 exercise sessions (twice a week for 6 weeks), and measures your outcomes to monitor your improvement
- The goal of the program is to reduce your symptoms so that you can do the things you want to do

Highlights:
- 458 Health Care Professionals in public and private sectors were certified
- 61 sites implementing the program in four provinces
- 607 patients with hip and knee OA participated
- 428 – 70% consented to provide data with and 178 completing the program
3-month follow-up (n=178)
- 28% pain reduction for knee and hip patients at 3 months
- Improved walking speed and chair stands (3-4) completed in 30 seconds
- Physical activity
- 35% reported increased physical activity
- 90% benefitted and 85% were satisfied with the program
- 70% reported using the knowledge daily with an additional 25% using it every week
- Reduction in pain meds from 77% to 72% at 3 months
What to expect when participating in a GLA:D® Canada Program
Education: 2 sessions + optional session with prior GLAD participant

- Maximum of 5 participants (Depending on restrictions due to COVID-19)
